Jim Thorpe police receive support from community

Count the Jim Thorpe Police Department among the many first responder agencies receiving a tremendous amount of community support during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Police Chief Joe Schatz said Tuesday his department has been gifted everything from cleaning products to personal protection equipment.

“Insurrection Distillery has given us hand sanitizer and cleaner, and Walmart in Mahoning Township has donated masks, cleaning and food supplies,” Schatz said. “We’d like to send out a big thank-you to those businesses.”

Maybe even more meaningful have been the products made and sent in by community members.

According to Schatz, Lois Lombardo and Bettyann Watson of Franklin Township, along with Beth Bacher of Jim Thorpe, stepped up to make masks for the department.

“They made us over three dozen handmade face masks for officers to utilize when out in the public,” Schatz said. “We’re so thankful for them and all of the Jim Thorpe community members who have been supporting the department along the way.”
