Council approves several resolutions at brief meeting

Lehighton Borough Council held a brief meeting on Monday to conduct essential business only due to the COVID-19 virus.

Council members Joe Flickinger, Ryan Saunders, Lisa Perry, Donnie Rehrig, and council President Grant Hunsicker were in attendance, while Councilwoman Autumn Abelovsky participated via Zoom. Councilman Darryl Arner was absent.

The following resolutions were approved:

• To respond to the 2020 Coronavirus Health Emergency by ratifying the administrative actions taken by borough Manager Nicole Beckett and Mayor Clark Ritter and authorizing the continuation of local state of emergency and continued operations.

• To authorize council President Grant Hunsicker to execute the agreement with Henkels and McCoy for the Beaver Run 12,470 volt circuit upgrade project. In February, council approved the project in the amount of $608,000 based on the recommendation of Utility Engineers P.C.

• To allow the participation and voting by telecommunications device.

Council’s next scheduled meeting is at 7 p.m. May 4.
