Palmerton delays hiring superintendent

Palmerton Area School Board’s original agenda included a vote on a permanent superintendent, but that did not happen Tuesday during the meeting held on an internet platform rather than in person.

“The contract is being finalized,” Lonoconus said. “The attorney representing the new superintendent advised against voting on the hiring until all details are complete. That being said, the new superintendent will be seated for July 1.”

The school board this week quickly moved through a number of consent agenda items including accepting the retirement of Karen Bernaski, a longtime technology instructor in the district, at the end of 2019-20.

“We’re thankful for her many years of excellent work for Palmerton,” Director Audrey Larvey said.

The board also authorized the superintendent and business administrator to make and release all necessary payments during the emergency shutdown.
