Tamaqua student meal distribution to begin today

Tamaqua Superintendent Ray Kinder addressed district families in regard to student meals on Friday, which are set to be distributed on Monday.

The district, in partnership with the Nutrition Group, will offer all Tamaqua students a “grab-n-go” style bagged lunch/breakfast from March 23-27. Each bag will contain the day’s lunch and next day’s breakfast. Currently, students do not need to qualify for free or reduced lunch status in order to participate. However, the meals are on a first-come, first-served basis.

Meals will be distributed at the Tamaqua High School/Middle School loading dock from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at no cost. There are no meal pickups on Saturday or Sunday.

The food served may include a meat sandwich, fruit, vegetable, milk (may vary by day) and ready-to-go breakfast items.

“In closing, we ask you to be mindful that this is a first for us,” Kinder noted in his letter. “We have never attempted anything of this nature. We will need your patience and support along the way.

A Tamaqua student must be present to pick up a meal.
