slide

Work has started on the Weir Mountain Road Bridge in Polk Township.

The bridge, located on Weir Mountain Road between Mill Pond/Fairgrounds Road and Mountain View Drive, is reduced to a single lane, controlled with stop signs. It will remain this way until approximately May 2 while a contractor makes repairs to the bridge. Once the repairs are complete the bridge will return to two lanes (one in each direction).

The Weir Mountain Road Bridge is a 33-feet long concrete T-beam bridge constructed in 1948 and has an average daily traffic volume of 950 vehicles.

Work on the bridge includes structural steel repairs, deck repairs, concrete beam and substructure repairs, masonry repairs, bearing repairs, joint repairs/joint sealing, painting, scour countermeasures and channel repairs, along with other miscellaneous construction.

The bridge repairs are part of a $3.1 million contract to make repairs to six bridges in the Northeastern Pennsylvania region. Fabcor Inc. of Jessup is the general contractor.

The other bridges being repaired under this contract are: Interstate 80 East over Schaefer Schoolhouse Road in Stroud Township, Monroe County; Bossardsville Road over Lake Creek in Hamilton Township, Monroe County; Gilbert Road Bridge over Pohopoco Creek in Chestnuthill Township, Monroe County; and Route 309 over Reading, Blue Mountain & Northern Railroad in Rush Township, Schuylkill County.
