Carbon County court – drug cases

Four defendants in pending drug-related criminal cases entered guilty pleas on Thursday in Carbon County court.

President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II accepted pleas from the following:

Michael J. Atkinson

, 29, of Coaldale, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was arrested on June 12 by Jim Thorpe police along West 10th Street, in the area of the L.B. Morris Elementary School. Police responded to a report of a suspicious man in a vehicle in the area. Atkinson was the person.

He is currently an inmate in the county prison on a probation violation charge, which is pending.

Nanovic sentenced him to serve 10 days to six months in jail and get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment.

Joseph David Giordano

, 20, of Nesquehoning, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was arrested on May 25 by Lansford police following a traffic stop along Patterson Street. Marijuana was found in the vehicle.

He was placed on probation for six months and ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation.

Joseph Henry Kalbarczyk

, 21, of Weatherly, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was arrested on June 18 by Summit Hill police following a vehicle stop along Route 902. At the stop police learned there was an active warrant for his arrest and took him into custody. Drug paraphernalia was found on him.

Nanovic place him on probation for six months and ordered he get a drug and alcohol evaluation.

William Moyer

, 40, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was arrested on May 23 by Lehighton police along North First Street in the area of the Dollar General Store.

Police responded to a report of a wanted person in the area. Moyer was found and had an active warrant for his arrest and was taken into custody. Drug paraphernalia was found on him.

He is currently an inmate in the county prison facing other charges.

Nanovic placed him on probation for six months and ordered he get a drug and alcohol evaluation.

Each defendant must also pay court costs of about $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation.
