Volunteers help repaint Valor Clinic’s Paul’s House

The community is coming together to help veterans who are in need. Habitat for Humanity, Pocono Builders Association, and the Valor Clinic Foundation have joined to paint Paul’s House, which is the housing Valor provides for veterans that are homeless or in the process of finding a new home.

They will need volunteers for this week and next week at the site in Jonas. People of all skill sets are welcome.

“When I retired, I wanted something to do,” site Director Bill Snell said. “I retired to Habitat eight years ago.” He previously used to be a technical teacher, specializing in building trades maintenance.

“I like the program because you’re giving back to the community. There are always people out in the community who, for some reason or another, need our help. That’s why like doing what I’m doing.

“They (the veterans) have given enough for us,” Snell said. “They need a hand up because of a hard patch in their life.”

“I enjoy it,” volunteer Elaine Forester said. “It’s giving back. The people I work with, they’re wonderful. And the purpose of the mission.

“Every day is a group of wonderful people, so you could have a good time. The veterans are swell. The people you’re working with are swell. Makes you smile. And it’s something that could help, so that’s the key.”

Sean Estes is a veteran who contributes to Valor. He was appreciative of Habitat for Humanity coming in to repaint Paul’s House.

“I love it,” he said. “We’ve had really great support from all of our volunteers and different organizations, so it’s nice that they do it up here.”

If anybody would like to volunteer can contact the Tobyhanna Habitat for Humanity at 570-216-4390.
