Weatherly updates smoking policy

The Weatherly Area School Board approved a policy update banning smoking and vaping on school property at a special meeting Wednesday night.

The board awarded the contract for asbestos abatement to Sargent Enterprises Inc. of Jim Thorpe, which was the low bidder for the work at $94,500, to be paid out of the construction fund.

Old textbooks from 1984, 1995, 1999 and 2002 were approved to be discarded.

All of the above was approved unanimously by the five school board members in attendance, board President Girard Fewins, Vice President Chad Obert, Treasurer Georgeann Herling and members Matthew VonFrisch and Shay Wagner. William Knepper, Brian O’Donnell, Amy Potsko and Gerard Grega were absent.

The board tabled a revised list of school bus drivers for Rohrer Bus Company, to get clarification on the names.

The Finance and Budget committee will meet June 5, followed by a caucus meeting, and then June 12 for the regular meeting, which starts at 7 p.m. All meetings are held in the Weatherly Area Middle School LGI Room.
