Tamaqua’s Bungalow pool will open June 8

The final preparations are being made for the Bungalow pool’s opening weekend, which has been pushed back to June 8, due to the extended school year.

Tamaqua borough manager Kevin Steigerwalt advised council that the pool has been drained, cleaned and filled, and additional maintenance is currently taking place. The pool will close on Aug. 25.

Council approved a lease agreement with Tiffanie Wirth for the pool concession stand, pending the receipt of a down payment.

The borough also hired six seasonal workers at a rate of $10 per hour.

Steigerwalt said that they will be helping with odd jobs around the borough, including grass cutting, painting, and cleaning.

Justin McCarrol was appointed to the head mechanic position. Advertisement will be made to fill the assistant position he is leaving.

In other summertime business, police Chief Henry Woods said that he had his first complaint involving fireworks and asked council where they were with a proposed fireworks ordinance for the borough.

Solicitor Michael Greek said that he had provided a draft ordinance, but no more progress had been made. Council agreed to review the draft and formulate a plan to adopt an ordinance.
