Shows at Mauch Chunk Opera House

Legendary drummer Corky Laing will be performing at the Mauch Chunk Opera House in Jim Thorpe tonight.

Laing, with the American rock band, Mountain, released three albums and the classic song “Mississippi Queen.” After the band’s breakup in 1972, Laing and Mountain bandmate, Leslie West went on to form blues-rock trio, West, Bruce and Laing with Jack Bruce.

Laing’s performance is an additional to his book signing at Soundcheck Records in Jim Thorpe at 5 p.m. His book is titled “Letters to Sarah.”

Tickets are $20, but are being offered half-price to anyone that is able to attend either of the two events. Doors open at 7 p.m., and the concert begins at 8 p.m.

Multi-instrumentalist Brett Andrew, formerly of the Robert Randolph Family Band, has rebuilt his current band “Hunk a Junk,” to include vocalist Christie McGorry, vocalist guitarist Vincent DeGiosio and saxophonist Kyle O’Brien to perform together Saturday as The Soul Cracker 9.

The group’s style is classic R&B and funk. They will perform songs by K.C. & The Sunshine Band, Aretha Franklin, Mavis Staple, The Jackson 5, Gladys Knight, Sly Stone, Al Green, Marvin Gaye and more.

Doors open at 7 p.m. The concert will begin at 8 p.m.

The performance will be held on Saturday at the Mauch Chunk Opera House, 14 W. Broadway in Jim Thorpe.
