Man charged with impersonating officer

An Albrightsville man has been charged for impersonating a police officer.

State police at Fern Ridge have charged Richard Modavis III after an incident at 4:48 p.m. March 25.

Court records say police were dispatched to Chippewa Trail, Penn Forest Township, to speak with a caller who believed he was pulled over that morning by someone who was impersonating a police officer.

The victim said that he was traveling to work on Route 903 when he got behind a silver Ford Explorer while both vehicles were traveling southbound in the area of the turnpike when the vehicle activated blue/white emergency lights, then pulled over.

The victim said he went around the Explorer and continued to work, but as he approached the Maury Road/903 intersection, the Explorer was behind him and activated the emergency lights on the front of the vehicle.

The victim said he pulled over at 6:40 a.m. in the St. Luke’s Rehab parking lot located off Route 903. Richard Modavis III, 48, stepped out of the vehicle and asked him for his driver’s license.

Modavis walked back to his vehicle and then approached again telling him his name sounded familiar, and told him they were neighbors.

Modavis then told the victim that he would be getting a call from the state police because he was tailgating him and it was all on tape.

Modavis was wearing a security uniform, which included a full duty belt with a Glock 9 mm firearm, and also wore his security badge and jacket during the incident.

The uniform is similar to the Pennsylvania State Police uniform.

Modavis faces charges of impersonating a public servant and disorderly conduct.

He is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing June 5 before District Judge Eric M. Schrantz of Jim Thorpe.
