Seager new Bears’ grid coach

Blaec Seager has been named head football coach at Pleasant Valley for the 2019 season.

Seager, who was introduced Monday in the school’s high school auditorium, has been a health teacher at East Stroudsburg North for the past 16 years, and was an assistant coach there for 14 years before becoming defensive backs coach at Bethlehem Catholic for the last two seasons. He played college football at East Stroudsburg University.

“Since 2014, there have been four different head coaches at Pleasant Valley, and I intend to change that pattern and put a needed stability in the program,” said Seager. “I’m here for the long haul.”

Seager spoke about how the football program, though having a storied history, has recently fallen on hard times. He asked parents for their commitment and support to help him bring back the winning tradition.

“I need you, the parents, to make sure your sons get to the weightroom and come to practice everyday,” he said. “As far as you trusting me with your sons, I will work hard to earn it.”

He talked about treating each of his players like he would his own son, and that would mean sometimes he might have to be tough with them.

“I will earn their trust, too, and that means if I have to be tough with discipline, they will also know that I have their backs,” Seager said.

Seager said he is bringing no predeterminded offensive or defensive system to Pleasant Valley, and the manner in which the Bears play will depend upon his evaluation of the players’ strengths.

When asked about his football philosophy, Seager replied by taking the game outside the lines.

“We are going to build young men here,” he said. “At the players’ meeting today (Monday), I told them they need to be champions in their classrooms, in their community and in their families. I told them it takes a group of great people to win football games, and we are going to see to it that our players leave here as great young men.”
