Fire sweeps through home in Lake Harmony

Fire swept through a home in the Split Rock section of Lake Harmony Friday night.

The fire at 217 Moseywood Road was reported by a passer-by at 6:50 p.m.

By the time Kidder Township police arrived on the scene flames were showing at the rear of the home. Within minutes, as Lake Harmony Volunteer Fire Company arrived flames broke through the front of the building.

Lake Harmony was assisted by Albrightsville and Penn Forest No. 2 volunteer fire companies from Carbon County and Tunkhannock and Tobyhanna volunteer fire companies from Monroe County. Lake Harmony Rescue Squad was also present.

“All and all there were between 30 to 35 firefighters present to help contain the fire and to help with the knock down,” said Lake Harmony Fire Chief Ralph Lennon. “One firefighter was sent to the hospital as a precaution.”

According to Lennon, the property is a full loss. The owner’s contact information was out of date and the authorities were unable to inform the property owner of the loss.

“There didn’t appear to be anything suspicious about the fire,” Lennon said. “However the Pennsylvania State Police fire marshal was there to investigate.”

Lennon said that the fire companies cleared the scene by 11 p.m., but returned in the morning to wet down the smoldering remains.

“These guys did a great job last night,” Lennon said. “Everyone worked as a team and I am grateful for how well they worked together. Absolutely professional and hard working.”
