Police say Lehighton woman threatened to kill mother with kitchen knife over financial dispute

A Lehighton woman is behind bars after she allegedly threatened to kill her mother with a kitchen knife.

Sabrina Crespo, 25, faces charges on one count each of terroristic threats with intent to terrorize another, simple assault, harassment and persistent disorderly conduct.

According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by patrolman Joel Gulla of the Lehighton Borough Police Department:

At 3:15 p.m. Nov. 19, police received a call reporting a domestic dispute between a mother and daughter that involved a knife at a home on Stedman Avenue.

Upon arrival, Gulla found the mother, who was outside and crying hysterically.

The mother said she was in fear of her life and afraid to go back in the residence because her daughter, Crespo, had been threatening her for about a week.

The mother said that on this day, Crespo had been threatening her and became violent, and that while in the kitchen they had an argument over money, and Crespo pulled a red-handled kitchen knife and threatened to kill her.

The mother said she feared for her life, ran from the residence and called for help.

Crespo was found in the basement and taken into custody, at which time a pocket knife was found in her pocket.

While taking Crespo out of the house, she was unruly, screaming loudly and struggled with police until they got her in a patrol car, where she continued to scream and yell until police arrived at the station.

When police returned to the station, Crespo was advised of her Miranda warnings, which she waived and agreed to talk.

Crespo admitted to screaming and arguing with her mother over money while in the kitchen, but denied pulling a knife and threatening her.

Crespo said she was upset because she loaned her mom money and her mom refused to pay her back.

Crespo is currently lodged in the Carbon County Correctional Facility in lieu of $50,000, 10 percent bail.

Crespo is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing at 3 p.m. Wednesday before District Judge Eric Schrantz of Jim Thorpe.
