Fourth arrest on drug charges in Summit Hill

A Summit Hill man who purchased heroin for a confidential informant of the Pennsylvania Office of the Attorney General and Summit Hill Police has been charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver it and possession of a controlled substance.

Michael Gerald Snyder, 24, of the 300 block of East Hazard Street, is facing the charges, as well as a charge of criminal use of a communication facility.

He was arrested for making the prearranged buy on April 18 at 5:38 p.m. on East Ludlow Street in Summit Hill.

Borough police said they met with narcotics agents of the attorney general’s office and a confidential informant to arrange for Snyder to make the heroin purchase.

Police said they monitored as the informant placed phone calls and text messages to Snyder’s cellphone.

Snyder responded that he agreed to make the purchase for the informant.

Police said they provided Snyder with “prerecorded money” and watched him enter the rear of the residence, emerging several minutes later. When he left the home, Snyder was stopped by police and found to be in possession of three bags of suspected heroin that was stamped “Fire and Fury” in red.

Police executed a search warrant on the residence and found several “bricks” of the suspected heroin, as was the “prerecorded” money that had been given to Snyder.

In an earlier report, police said three people were arrested in the drug investigation by borough police and the Attorney General’s Bureau of Narcotics Investigations.

They include Elizabeth Garrett, 56, and Emerson A. Garrett, 59, both of the Ludlow Street address, and William Norman Derau, 43, of West Ridge Street, Lansford.

The trio was taken into custody after the execution of the search warrant.

Elizabeth Garrett was charged with criminal conspiracy, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, unlawful delivery of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance.

Emerson Garrett, who has since died, was charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Derau was charged with criminal conspiracy and possession of a controlled substance.

The same report indicated police arrested a man (now identified as Snyder) after he left the residence with several bags of heroin stamped “Fire and Fury” in his possession.

Police said then that the search warrant execution revealed several more bundles of heroin, stamped the same way, a small amount of methamphetamine and a large marijuana grow operation in several upstairs rooms. Several firearms were seized from the residence.
