Walker Township one step closer to road repair

Walker Township is one step closer to securing financing for its long-awaited road repair project. Solicitor Chris Reidlinger informed the board that the paperwork is complete and the project is ready to be submitted the Department of Economic and Community Development for approval.

The township has already secured a commitment from Mauch Chunk Trust for financing for the project.

Regarding another road project, Roadmaster Chad Felty told the supervisors that line painting will begin on Monday. Last month, the township hired DBI Services of Hazleton for the project. Felty also noted that the township has purchased salt and anti-skid material in preparation for winter.

In other business, the board put to rest the proposed amendment to the Eastern Schuylkill Regional Planning ordinance. Solicitor Reidlinger told the board that a case currently before the commonwealth court could make the amendment to the agreement irrelevant.

He advised the supervisors to approve the ordinance as it is currently written. The supervisors unanimously agreed.

The supervisors agreed to the date of Oct. 22 to meet with representatives from the other members of the ESRP, Rush and Schuylkill townships and Tamaqua borough.

The supervisors also accepted the resignation of Walker Township police officer, Todd Woodward. This leaves the township with one part-time officer. It is unclear if Woodward would be replaced.
