The Wolf administration announced work will begin Monday on a project to resurface Interstate 80 in Kidder Township and East Side Borough, Carbon County. The project also includes work on I-80 in Luzerne County will begin next year.

The project is made possible by Resurface PA, the Wolf Administration’s statewide initiative to accelerate repaving work on interstates and attack potholes across Pennsylvania.

“Through Resurface PA, PennDOT is repaving the entire length of Interstate 80 in Carbon County,” Gov. Tom Wolf said. “Beginning next week, motorists will see work to repair this pothole-riddled section of highway.”

The overall project includes full-depth reconstruction of I-80 between the Luzerne County line and Exit 274 (Route 534) and milling, concrete patching, and paving of I-80 between Exit 274 (Route 534) and the Monroe County line. The project also includes concrete preservation work at various locations on I-80 in Luzerne County between Exit 262 (Route 309) and the Carbon County line.

Starting Monday, the contractor will begin the full-depth reconstruction of the 1-mile section of I-80 between the Luzerne County line and Exit 274. Motorists should expect 24-hour lane restrictions in both directions until mid-November.

Then beginning in spring 2019, the contractor will begin the work to resurface the rest of I-80 in Carbon County and the work in Luzerne County. Updates will be provided when this work commences and whenever schedules change.
