Meuser wins fifth term

Republican U.S. Rep. Dan Meuser won a fifth term Tuesday, turning back Democrat Rachel Wallace in Pennsylvania’s 9th Congressional District.

The Associated Press called the race. Meuser led with 142,834 votes, or 62.17%, to Wallace’s 86,906 votes, or 37.83%, with 78% of the vote counted as of 10:37 p.m.

Meuser, 62, was first elected in 2018. Wallace, 38, was making her first run for Congress.

The district runs from the coal region into the northern tier. It takes in Bradford, Columbia, Lebanon, Montour, Northumberland, Schuylkill, Sullivan, Susquehanna and Wyoming counties, along with parts of Berks, Luzerne and Lycoming.

Neither faced a primary opponent in May. Meuser drew 62,527 votes and Wallace 34,503.
