Palmerton’s annual Movie in the Park planned

The Concourse Club of Palmerton and Raising the House invite the community to Palmerton’s fourth annual Movie in the Park.

“Coco,” the 2017 Academy Award-winning animated feature, is scheduled for 8:45 p.m. Wednesday in the borough park.

“Coco” features Miguel, who dreams of becoming an accomplished musician like his idol, Ernesto de la Cruz.

Desperate to prove his talent, Miguel finds himself in the stunning and colorful Land of the Dead following a mysterious chain of events.

Along the way, he meets charming trickster Hector, and together, they set off on an extraordinary journey to unlock the real story behind Miguel’s family history.

The movie will be displayed on a 22-foot inflatable screen. Moviegoers should be sure to bring a blanket or their preferred chair, snacks and drinks. All regular park rules, such as no alcohol, pets or smoking apply.

The rain date is Thursday. The decision to postpone due to weather concerns will be posted at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday on the Concourse Club website at www.concourseclub.org and on Facebook.

“This year’s movie ‘Coco’ was chosen due to its timeless message about the importance of family and its wide appeal across generations,” said Lisa Snell Kern, Concourse Club program director. “We’re honored to continue the tradition we began four years ago and are excited to bring on a new sponsor with Raising the House.”

As a new partner, Raising the House hopes to increase community awareness of its activities.

An annual spring 5K Run/Walk, along with public and business donations, support the organization’s efforts to maintain a scholarship award and provide financial support for Palmerton Area School District students and their families undergoing a serious hardship.

Applications for support are available on the group’s website at www.raisingthehouse.org.

In continuing its sponsorship of the annual movies, The Concourse Club is pleased to promote entertainment in the borough park for the community’s benefit.

“Our roster of members exceeds 130 dedicated and talented women, and we’re always looking for new members and new ideas,” said Snell Kern.

Those interested in more information should visit the club’s website.

The Concourse Club of Palmerton has been serving the Palmerton area since 1915. The organization is made up of women who are dedicated to public service and all members are registered to vote.

The club meets from October through May on the first Thursday of the month.
