Lehighton announces kindergarten registration dates for 2018

Lehighton Area School District has announced its kindergarten registration and assessment dates for 2018.

Registration will take place March 5-7 from 8-11:20 a.m. and from 1:05-2:35 p.m. on Monday and Wednesday, and 4 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the district administration building, 1000 Union St., Lehighton.

Assessment testing dates are May 7-9 from 8-11:20 a.m. and from 1:05-2:35 p.m. on Monday and Wednesday, and 4 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, also at the administration building.

District officials ask that parents:

• Visit www.lehighton.org, click on ‘Kindergarten Registration 2018-2019,’ under quick links on the right hand side of the page. Follow the instructions to set up an online profile for your child.

• After completing the online registration process, you will be directed to click on a link to schedule an appointment for each child’s registration, which will take place March 5-7.

• You will then be directed to schedule a time for kindergarten assessment testing which will take place May 7-9.

Two appointments must be scheduled; one for registration and one for assessment testing. The child must be present at both appointments.

Parents registering multiple children must make separate registration and assessment appointments for each child.

The following documents are required and must be brought to the registration appointment:

• A state-issued birth certificate or other acceptable proof of age and name is required. The document must be provided before the child will be admitted to school.

• A parent/guardian photo identification is required at time of registration. A guardian must provide a copy of legal guardianship with educational rights. If the guardian does not have legal custody, the parent must be present to sign with identification.

• Two proofs of residence dated within the past six weeks showing the parent/guardian name and address. Acceptable documents include gas and electric bill, water bill, auto insurance, verification of social services, bank statement, state identification card, phone bill, trash bill, unemployment or employment check, or a sworn affidavit of residency from an individual with whom the parent/guardian is living.

• New residents must provide a copy of a moving permit and one current document which could include a deed, mortgage statement, escrow papers, letter on apartment or mobile home park letterhead signed by the landlord, or a lease agreement and current rent receipt.

• Proof of immunizations including four doses of tetanus/diphtheria* (one dose on or after 4th birthday), four doses of polio, two doses of measles, two doses of mumps, one dose of rubella (German measles), three doses of hepatitis B and two doses of varicella (chickenpox) vaccine, or evidence of immunity.

In the event of a two-hour delay, appointments will start at 10 a.m. (appointments between 8-10 a.m. will need to be rescheduled via the website). If school is canceled, all appointments must be rescheduled via the website.

Guidance counselors will be available at registration.
