Bear, deer cause crashes

A black bear ran into the side of a 2004 Pontiac Grand Am at 11:34 p.m. Nov. 15 on Route 209 in Franklin Township, according to state police at the Lehighton barracks.

Police did not identify the driver of the vehicle.

They said the vehicle was traveling north on the highway when the bear ran out from the west side of the roadway and ran into the left-side back door of the car, causing minor damages.

Lehighton state police also investigated a collision between a 2014 Jeep and a deer on Route 903 in Penn Forest Township on Nov. 9.

Police did not provide the name of the driver of the vehicle, but said the vehicle was drivable but was requested to be towed by the operator because of being a New Jersey resident.

There were no injuries in the crash.
