Carbon County court - drug cases

Four defendants in pending drug-related cases entered guilty pleas before Carbon County Judge Joseph J. Matika on Tuesday.

Christopher Andrew Keer, 28, of Coaldale, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia with a count of possession of a controlled substance dropped in a plea bargain.He was arrested on Feb. 7 by Lansford police after they picked him up on an active arrest warrant. The paraphernalia was found on his person.Keer, currently an inmate in the county prison, is facing a parole violation proceeding in Schuylkill County.He admitted to an heroin addiction problem. Matika noted that Keer's father died of a drug overdose. He told the defendant, "You're going down the same path as your father."Matika placed him on probation for a year and ordered he get a drug and alcohol evaluation, zero tolerance for drug and alcohol use and render 50 hours of community service.He will be returned Schuylkill County to face the parole violation petition.Wendy Colleen Kneller, 43, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.She was arrested on March 31, 2016, at the intersection of routes 209 and 93 by Nesquehoning police. Methamphetamine was found in the vehicle. A possession of a controlled substance count was dropped in a plea bargain.Sentencing was deferred.Jaime L. Scatton, 34, of Hazleton, and formerly of Weatherly, pleaded to one count of possession of a controlled substance - heroin.She was arrested on Jan. 21, 2014, by Weatherly police in the parking lot of the Dollar General Store, 20 W. Main St. Police were told by a confidential informant that a drug sale was being made in the parking lot. Scatton was a passenger in the vehicle.She was previously placed in the county's Accelerated Rehabilitation Disposition probation program but was revoked from it for violating conditions.Sentencing was deferred.Justin Paul Mooney, 28, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.He was arrested on Jan. 30 by Mahoning Township police along Ashtown Road at the residence of a relative. He was found inside the home by the relative and was previously told not to be in the home. When police took him into custody the paraphernalia was found on his person.He admitted to a heroin addiction problem but said he had gone into an inpatient rehabilitation program and is now drug free.Matika placed him on probation for a year and ordered he render 50 hours of community service, get a drug and alcohol evaluation and zero tolerance for drug and alcohol use.Those sentenced must also pay court costs of about $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole.
