Carbon man given county prison term for drug dealing

A Carbon County man was sentenced to a county prison term on Friday on a drug dealing charge.

Phillip John McArdle Jr, 25, of Jim Thorpe, was sentenced by Judge Joseph J. Matika to serve a total of nine to one day less 24 months in prison. He previously pleaded to one count of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance.Before being sentenced he entered a guilty plea to one count of each of burglary and theft for an incident on Sept. 2, 2016, in Lansford.He was arrested on Nov. 5, 2015, by Jim Thorpe police following a controlled buy made by the borough police with the use of a confidential informant. Heroin was sold by the defendant to the CI, police said.Since his arrest, McArdle entered the Salvation Army's inpatient rehabilitation program for 196 days and while in, he got his general education diploma.McArdle apologized for his actions and added, "The Salvation Army made a better life for me." He admitted to a heroin addition problem before entering the program.Matika congratulated him for his successful completion of the program and said he addressed "that demon called addiction."McArdle was also ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation, zero tolerance for drug and alcohol use, supply a DNA sample, make restitution of $80, pay court costs of about $1,000, pay a $50 per month supervision fee and render 75 hours of community service.He was given credit for a total of 305 days spent in the rehab and prison on the charges and paroled.
