Palmerton school district approves personnel moves

Preparing for the 2017-18 school year, Palmerton Area School District's board of directors approved a number of personnel moves Tuesday night.

Teacher transfers include Susan Warakomski moving from third grade to fourth grade at Towamensing Elementary School, Jacob Zurn from fourth grade to fifth grade at Towamensing, Jessica Silfies from reading specialist at Palmer to kindergarten at Parkside Education Center, Kurtisha Berger to a cashier in the high school cafeteria and Rosanne Saylor to a cashier in the Towamensing cafeteria.The board also accepted the resignations of Margaret Versuk, cafeteria staff; Tricia Keiper from Towamensing instructional assistant; and Erik Tracy, high school special education teacher.The district has advertised for the reading specialist and special education positions, which would round out its professional staff for the start of the 2017-18 school year.Heather Reabold was hired as a substitute instructional assistant and secretary at the elementary level.Lindsey Serfass and Alexandrea Spalding, grade 2-3 were tabbed as co-curriculum coordinators at Towamensing.Advisors for the 2017-18 school year include Lyndsey Heinrich and Miranda Allen, art club; Vicki McHugh and Dawn Burke, Aevidum; Robert Falkenstein, Avenger, video club, yearbook and Class of 2021; Thomas Heinick, band; David Kellerman, chess club, Souled Out club and environmental club; Natalie Maderia, chorus and junior high chorus; Craig Borland, Class of 2018; Michael Gombert, Class of 2019; Jeana Baumgardt and Travis Fink, Class of 2020 and LEO club; Brent Harris, drama club and stage maintenance; Jennifer Danzeisen and Kerry Palumbo, Future Business Leaders of America; Jose Elvir, International Travelers' club; Whitney Kern, library book club; Jennifer Danzeisen, mock trial; Alex Knoll, National Honor Society and scholastic scrimmage; Bonnie Tavella, oratory; Miranda Allen, Peer Assistance Advisors Committee; Jeana Baumgardt and Joshua Nenscel, student council; Patricia Boyd, ACE; Suzanne Lynn and Christopher Kery, junior high student council; Kevin Kolodziejski, junior high yearbook; and Brianna Carroll, National Junior Honor Society.Other mattersIn other business Tuesday, the board:• Approved a five-year copier lease agreement with Xerox - Complete Document Solutions beginning Aug. 18 and ending Aug. 18, 2022 at the price of $4,983.78 per month.• Approved a contract with Postage Pros Plus for the rental of a mail machine beginning Aug. 25 and ending Oct. 25, 2022 at the price of $158.70 per month.• Approved a discovery streaming agreement with Carbon Lehigh Intermediate Unit 21 for the 2017-18 school year at the cost of $1,565.20.• Approved a contract with Behavioral Health Associates.• Approved curriculum for mathematics grades 7-12, science K-6 and 7-8, natural science, social studies K-6, English 9-12 and creative writing.
