PHS Class of 1948

The Palmerton Class of 1948 will be holding its quarterly gathering on Thursday at Bert's Steakhouse on Delaware Avenue in Palmerton. This will be a special occasion, as the class will be celebrating its 69th year since graduating.All class members, spouses, companions and caregivers are welcome.Any questions, call Norm Eckhart at 610-826-3218 or Blanche Yanick at 610-826-7885.Christmas in JulyChristmas in July Open House continues at the Carbon Model Railroad Society from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The main HO scale display is in various stages of completion and is an excellent learning tool.The club's portable HO and N scale displays will also be in operation on the second floor along with new and pre-owned trains and accessories for sale.The club home is located at 529 Ore St., Bowmanstown. The building is air-conditioned. Admission is free; donations are welcome.For more information, call Garry at 610-826-6636.PPRAC Ride XVIIIOn Sunday, 70 cyclists will begin pedaling from the White Mountains of New Hampshire, across the Green Mountains of Vermont and Catskills of New York, then head south over Pennsylvania and back home to the finish line at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 502 Lafayette Ave., Palmerton.The money raised by the ride gives 85 percent to the American Cancer Society and 15 percent to Dream Come True.Holy Trinity will host the registration and breakfast send off on Sunday as well as the home celebration dinner on July 29.The Freed family, local riders, can be found at PPRAC.net. Fire company block partyTowamensing Volunteer Fire Company (Trachsville) will be holding a block party from 4 to 11 p.m. July 29.An all-you-can-eat supper buffet under the tent will be served from 4-8 p.m.There will be door prizes (including a 48-inch flat screen TV) and games of chance.Entertainment will be by D.J. Dave from 4-7 p.m. and then live music by Band of Brothers (classic rock from '60s, '70s and '80s) from 8 to 11 p.m.Ticket priceincludes buffet, entertainment and first drink. Wine coolers and beer will be available for purchase.The buffet will be catered by Beltzville Bar and Grill.The event will be held rain or shine.Park concertThis Sunday's concert in the Palmerton Borough Park Bandstand will be by Lenny & the Loafers and is sponsored by First Northern Bank and Trust. It begins at 7 p.m. Please bring a lawn chair. The Concourse Club Bandstand Committee reserves the right to cancel due to bad weather.Last week's concert was sponsored by Horsehead Community Development Fund.First UCCThere will be no worship service Sunday at First UCC. Church members are invited to worship together with St. Paul's at Indian Trail Park in Pennsville at 10:30 a.m. Following the worship members will gather for food and fellowship.Meat items will be supplied, as well as cold drinks, coffee and paper products. If you are able to bring a dessert or another dish for the meal please do so. You may also bring a bingo prize and an item for the cake walk as well.Please do not stay away if you are unable to bring anything but yourself. Feel free to bring a lawn chair and appropriate clothing for a dip in the creek as well.Al-Anon groupsAl-Anon Family Groups meet at different locations in the Palmerton Area. The drawing will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesdayin the hospital cafeteria. You need not be present to win. Tickets may be purchased at the gift shop at the Palmerton Hospital.Palmerton Class of 1955Palmerton Class of 1955 will meet at 12:30 p.m. July 27. at Joey B's on Delaware Ave. in Palmerton. All are invited to join for fellowship and a meal.Lutheran World Relief QuiltersThe Lutheran World Relief Quilters of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 502 Lafayette Ave., Palmerton, are hard at work making quilts for Lutheran World Relief.The group is in need of large pieces of cotton fabric and flat sheets for backing.Call the church at 610-826-2524 for a drop off time if you have any to donate.The group also needs help putting the quilts together.
