Camelbeach honors vets on Memorial Day

Although drizzled with rain throughout the day, Camelbeach Mountain Waterpark opened its doors to guests and provided services for Memorial Day on Monday.

Throughout the day, Camelbeach played periodic announcements including the Pledge of Allegiance, the national anthem, taps and a moment of silence. Although the distance was a bit far to travel, locals still found the time to head up to the Poconos to enjoy a day at the water park and honor veterans."I think that it's a great idea to honor our veterans and let them know they are not forgotten," said Seth Kron, 17, a Kunkletown native."Twenty-two veterans commit suicide every day."Memorializing veterans creates a tangible reminder of the sacrifices they have made for this nation and remains an important facet of American tradition. Many citizens do not necessarily understand the significance of the day, however.Director of Waterpark Operations Wayne L. Franks Jr. said, "Memorial Day provides the opportunity to raise the level of awareness for all citizens to honor and provide the time of respect for all service men and women of our past, present and future."The Monroe County resident not only ensured the smooth operation of the water park for the guests' enjoyment, but took his own time to remember veterans on Memorial Day through the waterpark's services.Camelbeach also provided the opportunity for military men and women to enter the park for free in honor of their service."This is our way to thank everybody and give back to the community," Event Manager AJ Stack said."People often overlook what Memorial Day is. They really don't see the real meaning of it. We create awareness for what the day is really about."
