May 26, 1979 - Northwestern's Chuck Koenig wins a gold medal while Panther Valley's Geno DeGiosio earns a bronze at the PIAA Class 2ATrack and Field Championships. Koenig captures first in the shot put with a throw of 58-2, becoming the first Tiger to ever win a track and field gold. DeGiosio runs an 11.32 in the 100 preliminaries and follows that up with an 11.28 in the finals to take third place. Slatington's Barry Eckhart also medals, finishing fifth in the 1600 with a time of 4:22.89.
