Lower Towamensing Township voters decided the Republican nomination for a four-year term as tax collector, granting Nicole J. Jahelka a nine-vote victory in a two-person race.

Meanwhile, in Towamensing Township, incumbent supervisor Guy Seifert survived a GOP contest, winning by six votes.Lower Towamensing Twp.With incumbent tax collector Connie Brown not seeking re-election (she ran for and lost the Democratic nomination for Carbon County register of wills and clerk of orphans court), that left a race between two newcomers, both Republicans. Jahelka was the victor, defeating Kathy C. Wallace by an 81-72 vote. There was no Democratic candidate.Township voters are also expected to fill the six-year term on the board of supervisors this year. Incumbent Democrat Brent M. Green was unopposed in pursuit of re-election and received 135 token votes. There was no Republican candidate.In a race for a six-year term on the board of auditors, there were no candidates on either ticket.Towamensing TownshipSeifert won the GOP nomination in his supervisor re-election bid, defeating Scott Mosier by a vote of 104-98. No one ran on the Democratic side.In the tax collector's race, Republican Joyce Borger collected 150 complimentary votes as an unopposed Republican candidate. She will face Democrat Brenda L. Drew in the general election for the four-year term. Drew was unopposed Tuesday and received 165 token votes.Township residents have two auditor positions to fill this year, one for a six-year term and the other being a two-year term. However, there were no candidates on either ballot for the positions.PalmertonThere were no contests in Palmerton Borough Tuesday.Incumbent Mayor Christopher D. Olivia was unopposed in his bid for re-election to a four-year term and collected 210 token votes.In a borough council race, three Democrats and three Republicans are running for four four-year terms and were unopposed Tuesday. The six candidates will, however, square off in November.The Democratic vote totals showed Kris W. Hoffner tops with 200 votes, while Randy Gursky and Jeremy Barbosa both finished with 182 votes.Richard L. Nothstein topped the Republican ballot with 178 votes, followed by William Gallagher with 121 and Michael J. Ballard with 118.A two-year term on the council is also slated to be filled by the electorate but there were no candidates on either ticket.Tax collector Lisa M. Nemeth, a Republican, is running for re-election to another four-year term and was unopposed Tuesday. She collected 217 token votes.BowmanstownAll of the candidates on Tuesday's ballot in Bowmanstown were unopposed.Mayor William C. Ravert, a Republican seeking re-election to another four-year term, collected 43 token votes. There was no Democratic candidate on the ballot.In the borough council race, there were three nominations for four-year terms up for grabs. Complimentary votes went to Democrats Barbara B. Eastland, 33; and Robert Moyer and B.C. Steigerwalt, 31 votes each; while Republican Darren R. Thomas got the support of 32 party members.Tax collector Maria E. Smith is seeking re-election to another four-year term and was unopposed on both ballots. A Democrat, she received 37 complimentary votes.
