School officials thank police for response

Panther Valley school officials thanked the police who responded to a threat at the school earlier this month, as well as the district's own staff.

Panther Valley Junior-Senior High School was placed on lockdown, then dismissed early on Monday, May 1, due to an online threat.Several departments responded to the school, as well as Carbon County Emergency Management and a K-9 unit from the Lehigh Valley.Superintendent Dennis Kergick offered his thanks to the police departments in Summit Hill, Nesquehoning, Lansford and Coaldale for their quick response after the threat was made.He also thanked administrators for providing support, and the staff and students for their cooperation."Our junior-senior high school students and staff were simply wonderful. They followed all the effective planning and response to a crisis situation and it's advantageous to the safety of all involved," Kergick said.No one has been arrested in connection with the threat, which was initially found by Jim Thorpe Police through an anonymous online tip line.
