Woman brought to prison says she forgot she had knife in bra

A Carbon County woman pleaded guilty on Tuesday to a weapons count, telling the court she forgot she had a knife hidden in her bra when she was brought to the county prison.

Jennifer Rose Stefanick, 23, of Summit Hill, pleaded to one count of inmate procuringweapon, before Judge Joseph J. Matika.Stefanick was charged by Nesquehoning police on Feb. 22 at the county prison. She was brought to the prison on a bench warrant and while being processed into the jail, and during a strip search, corrections officers found a large folding knife hidden in her bra.When asked by Matika why she did not admit to having the knife before entering the prison, she said, “I forgot it was there.” She said she was nervous because she was going to jail on the warrant and became upset.Matika sentenced her to time served (50 days) to one year in jail and ordered her to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow all recommendations for treatment, zero tolerance for drug and alcohol use, render 50 hours of community service, pay court costs of about $1,000 and pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation.Although she got a time-served sentence, she won’t be leaving the prison.She has at least two detainers filed against her for probation/parole violations. Action on those criminal counts are pending.
