Monroe County commissioners approve block grant funding

The list of the 2017 Community Service Block Grant subcontracts for 2017 were approved by the Monroe County Commissioners on Wednesday morning. The following organizations will receive funds providing that applicable insurance requirements are met.

• Burnley Workshop of the Poconos Inc., $15,000• Catholic Social Services - FLECHA, $21,000• Devereux Pocono Center, $16,000• Family Promise, $18,000• Garden of Giving, $7,000• Goodwill Industries, $23,261• Integra Home Counseling Inc., $12,000• Monroe County Meals on Wheels, $16,542• Monroe County Youth Employment Services, $10,000• Pocono Area Transitional Housing, $18,170• Pocono Alliance, $32,910• Pocono Services for Families and Children, $20,000• Salvation Army, $78,000• Stroud Region Open Space and Rec Commission, $8,850• Resources for Human Development, $20,093All grants will be administered through the county, which will also administer $79,206 in grants for Pike County. The total block grants awarded in Monroe County is $316,826.In other county business the commissioners awarded a contract to Deangelo Brothers LLC for annual deck cleaning and vegetation control for county bridges for 2017 through 2019 in the amount of $178,001.56.An agreement was also executed between Monroe and Pike County for the maintenance of a jointly owned county bridge known as Monroe County Bridge 15. Although a slightly greater percentage of the bridge is located in Monroe County, Pike County has agreed that all bridge maintenance and the cost of eventual replacement will be split 50/50 by both counties.A contract for replacement of five rooftop HVAC units for the Public Safety Center was approved in the amount of $47,936, which was the lowest of three bids. The contract was awarded to F/J Hess and Sons.The commissioners approved the sale of a small, narrow piece of property at the corner of Ann Street and South Seventh in the amount $31,680.A master system agreement was executed with Guardian RFID to install and maintain an inmate tracking system in the correctional facility in the amount of $75,341.10 to be paid for by the County Commissioners Association of PA Insurance Program. According to Chairman John Moyer, the tracking system will keep records of when corrections officers visit various parts of the facility.Purchase of Services Agreements for Children and Youth were executed with contract limits for Families United Network Inc. limited to $3,000, George Junior Republic in Pennsylvania limited to $600,000, Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Services Inc. limited to $30,000, Adlephoi Village Inc. limited to $600,000, Clear Vision Residential Treatment Services Inc. limited to $50,000, and Northampton County Juvenile Justice Center limited to $880,000.Commissioners made the following appointments:Eduardo Gonzalez to the Area Agency on Aging Advisory Board with a term to expire Dec. 31, 2019.Tom Hill to the Monroe County Board of Assessment Revision, replacing Mary Lou Thomas.Approve the appointment of Judith Linder as Deputy Tax Collector for Pocono Township.
