Carbon County court - drug cases

Four defendants in pending drug-related cases entered guilty pleas in Carbon County court on Tuesday.

Judge Steven R. Serfass accepted pleas from the following:Samantha Jean Weaver, 26, of Jim Thorpe, pleaded to one count of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance - heroin. She was arrested on July 14by Jim Thorpe police as part of an operation by the county drug task force. She sold heroin to a confidential informant. She sold 17 bags of heroin for $160 to the CI. The sale occurred in Nesquehoning.Serfass deferred sentencing and ordered the adult probation office to prepare a presentence investigation report. Weaver will also apply for placement in the county's Intermediate Punishment Program - house arrest.Jessica Lynn Bing, 27, of South Hill, Virginia, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. A charge of possession of a controlled substance was dropped in a plea bargain. She was arrested on Jan. 2 along Old Stage Road in Penn Forest Township by state police at Lehighton following a vehicle crash. She was a passenger in the vehicle and was found with 15 small empty baggies with heroin residue.She is currently an inmate in the county prison and is facing extradition back to Virginia, where she is facing other drug counts.Serfass placed her on probation for a year and ordered her to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and render 50 hours of community service when she is released from custody.Monica Lynn Walck, 39, of Summit Hill, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. She was arrested on May 12, 2016, by Lehighton police in the 100 block of Iron Street following a vehicle stop. She was a passenger in the vehicle where various needles were found which were used for methamphetamine.She is currently serving a 177-day jail term in the county prison for a probation violation.Serfass placed her on probation for a year and ordered her to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and render 50 hours of community service when released from custody.Eddie Pearson, 58, of Allentown, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. He was arrested on Feb. 25, 2015, by state police at Lehighton following a traffic stop along Route 248 near Palmerton. He was a passenger in the vehicle.He was placed on probation for a year and ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation.Each defendant sentenced must also pay court costs of about $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole.
