Jordan powers NS

FOUNTAIN SPRINGS - The Major did it!

North Schuylkill unleashed its two-time all-state football player Major Jordan on Saturday afternoon at Gosh Orthodontics Field in Spartan Stadium. The 6-1, 215-pound senior saved his best career day running the ball for his final appearance at home.Always a force on defense, this time Jordan was the reason why his team was able to run rampant over Jim Thorpe's defense en route an impressive 34-14 win.Jordan cracked the Olympians for 236 yards rushing on 38 carries, a career-best on both accounts. Jordan also hit the end zone four times on this perfect autumn afternoon, barreling for the first two North Schuylkill touchdowns on 1-yard plunges, before following it up with scores from 27 and four yards out."He is such a great player, we had our hands full trying to contain him," said Jim Thorpe's coach Mark Rosenberger. "All I can say, I'm glad he is going to graduate."So too are a lot of other coaches! It was the second time this season in which the Spartans upended Thorpe, but this one in the District 11 Class 3A playoffs was the curtain closer for the Olympians' season. Meanwhile, North Schuylkill advances to next Saturday's semifinal round at Notre Dame Green Pond."We never had any answers for them," said Rosenberger. "Jordan just was so tough to stop, but I thought that we made a statement when Gesinger ran back the second-half kickoff."Indeed that seemed to be a statement for Thorpe, which had been held off the board in the opening half . The special teams score cut the Spartans' lead to 14-7.But It was only a temporary uplifting as the Spartans reared back and mounted an impressive 11-play scoring drive. Starting on its own 26, North Schuylkill kept feeding the ball to Jordan, who chewed up 56 of the drive's 74 yards, including the 27-yard sprint to the end zone.Still, Thorpe wasn't out for the count and immediately had an answer with an impressive 10-play 85-yard drive. Junior running back Justin St. Hill (18-66) kept churning his quick feet, while quarterback Brendan Carroll found his rhythm. Carroll completed three passes in the drive for 35 yards, St. Hill finished off the drive with a three-yard run."He has such great balance for a kid that weighs only 150 pounds," said Rosenberger. "He just keeps moving his feet. I'm glad he is coming back."Unfortunately, though, Thorpe couldn't rise on the defensive side of the ball for a much-needed stop. North Schuylkill put together a back-breaking seven-play scoring drive to regain control and then added another in the waning minutes of the contest."We were able to dictate pretty much with the way we lined up on offense," explained Jordan about the game plan. "When we went double twins, they only had one middle backer so it was five-on-five with me running the ball. Our linemen did a fantastic job of creating seams for me to run through."LAST TIME OUT ... Jim Thorpe fell in Week 7 to the Spartans 28-7.THE MAJOR ... Jordan is a two-time all-state linebacker, who is committed to play at Lafayette next season.ON THE RISE ... St. Hill and CJ Selby return next season in the Olympian backfield. Both are dynamic running backs.
