Bald eagle healing in Poconos

A bird with a broken wing was found in the front yard of a home in Jackson Township, Monroe County.

When Pennsylvania Game Commission Deputy Wildlife Conservation Officer Rich Weichand recently arrived at a home along Possinger Road in Jackson Township, he was greeted by a mature bald eagle in need of immediate medical attention.Weichand determined that the eagle was likely suffering from a broken wing.He placed the bird in a large pet carrier and delivered it to the Pocono Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education Center near Saylorsburg. The bald eagle was evaluated at the center and then transported to Wright's Veterinary Medical Center in Bethlehem for X-rays and medical care. The bird was found to have a broken radius bone, a large bone running along the front of the wing."The eagle is currently being treated twice a week with low-level laser therapy that will help improve circulation and facilitate healing," said center director Dr. Clifford Wright Jr. "We are providing external support to the wing, and the bird undergoes regular range-of-motion exercises."The game commission is hopeful that the eagle will recover enough to allow the bird to be released back into the wild.
