Charges pending after van hits two vehicles in Tamaqua

A driver from the Owl Creek section of Tamaqua will answer to charges after crashing into two vehicles on June 20 on Vine Street.

According to police, Andrew Lewis, 45, of 121 Owl Creek Road, was operating a gray Ford Econovan E-250 when he drove into a parked Subaru Impreza and a parked Dodge Durango. The Impreza then was then pushed into a house located at the corner of Pine and Vine streets.According to the police affidavit, Lewis admitted to having a couple of beers at a bar before going to Murphy's Beer Distributor to get beer and go home. He told police he had no idea how he ran into the parked car and that he must have blacked out while driving.Police said they smelled an odor of alcoholic beverages and administered field sobriety tests, determining that Lewis appeared to be under the influence of alcohol and incapable of safe driving.Lewis was taken to Schuylkill Medical Center South, Pottsville, for a blood draw. Results are pending.
