Nestle withdraws application for water extraction in Eldred Township

The residents of rural Eldred Township put up a fight and came away with a victory.

A Nestle spokesman made an announcement Wednesday night that the company is withdrawing its water extraction application and pulling out of Eldred Township.

The residents attending the supervisors meeting Wednesday night stood and cheered. They banded together to go to court to fight the zoning regulation that allowed extraction.

Eric Andreus, hydrogeologist for Nestle, read a statement. "As projects progress it is always our policy to continually assess the interest of our partners alongside our business and the interests of the community."

"We have not been successful in gaining the same acceptance here in Eldred Township as we have in other communities that host our operations, and our partner in this effort has also expressed his reservations about moving forward."

" So to all these reasons an others and mutual agreement with the landowner Nestle Waters withdrew its pending water extraction application," Andreus said.

Nestle was petitioning to withdraw up to 200,000 gallons of water per day from the Chestnut Spring on property owned by Ricky Gower, off Sandy Hill Path in Eldred Township.

The township has had several hearings on the application.
