Fire companies from Luzerne and Carbon counties are battling a major forest fire in a very remote mining area four miles east of Stockton.

This fire was first reported just after noon. It is believed to have been spotted and reported by a spotter in a fire tower.

The fire is about four miles northeast of Beaver Meadows.

Many confused this fire with the controlled burn in Carbon county although about 10 to 15 miles apart.

At least one aircraft was dispatched to the scene.

The smoke is so intense one northeast Pennsylvania television station is reporting it can be seen as far away as Lackawanna County.
