DUNMORE, Pa. (AP) - Officials say a fire has destroyed a historic building constructed by the Pennsylvania Coal Co. in 1870.

Fire Chief Christopher DeNaples tells The (Scranton) Times-Tribune (http://bit.ly/1QWbUlc ) firefighters responded to the former Laurel Hill Nursing Home early Sunday in Dunmore.Firefighters battled the blaze for more than 12 hours.DeNaples says the building is vacant.Anthony Ranella, a founding member of the borough's Historical Society, says Pennsylvania Coal built the three-story building after deciding to move offices and mechanical shops from Hawley to Dunmore.Ranella had wanted the building restored and listed on the National Register of Historical Places, or possibly leased to businesses.The nursing home opened in 1965.
