A Monroe County man is in jail after stealing jewelry and then pawning it off for cash.

Howard Williams, 29, of Effort, was scheduled to have a preliminary hearing last Friday before District Judge Colleen Mancuso of Brodheadsville.Instead, Williams waived his right to the hearing, and will appear before the Monroe County Court of Common Pleas.Williams faces charges of burglary,criminal trespass and receiving stolen property.He remains incarcerated in the Monroe County Correctional Facility in lieu of $5,000 monetary bail.According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by trooper David Myers of the Pennsylvania State Police:At 6:26 p.m. Oct. 9, while on patrol, Myers was dispatched toScots Pine Lane in Chestnuthill Township for a reported burglary.Upon arrival, Myers was met by the victim, as well as multiple immediate family members. The victim said when she returned home from the store, she discovered belongings missing from her bedroom.The belongings included a brown jewelry box containing miscellaneous jewelry, and a Nook tablet with an orange cover.The victim's daughter-in-law told Myers she was at her residence located behind the victim's residence, and that she went to the victim's home after observing Williams exit and re-enter the home.The daughter-in-law said she saw Williams walk to his vehicle with his right arm at a 90-degree angle as if he was carrying something.When she asked Williams what he was doing at the home, Williams said he had dealings with a male known to the family.Williamsgot in his vehicle and left the residence.The daughter-in-law positively identified Williams in a photo lineup.On Dec. 10, Myers retrieved a gold ring from J & S Stoeckel Jewelers, which Williams sold to the store.Myers also retrieved a wedding ring and two gold necklaces from cash for Gold at Scott Gold Inc., which Williams sold to the store.The pieces of jewelry were previously identified by the victim.
