Gerard Scaran of Lansford was elected chairman of the Carbon County Solid Waste Disposal Authority during an organizational meeting held in the Carbon County Courthouse Annex, Jim Thorpe.

His associates on the executive staff are Harold Rabenold of Lehighton, vice chairman, and Mayor Michael Hichok of Jim Thorpe, secretary-treasurer.The other members of the authority are Mayor-President Edward Dodson of Weatherly, and Kenneth Heiney of Palmerton. Thomas J. Shaughnessy, county planning director, will serve as consultant to the authority, which is charged with the task of addressing solid waste disposal concerns for boroughs and townships in the county.
