The Carbon County Commissioners approved selection of a board of 12 people to work as a Carbon County Civil Defense Commission under director William J. Schmidt of Jim Thorpe.

Named to the board are George Samok, Walter Kacicek and Dr. Allan Erskine, all of Palmerton; Paul McCauley, Lehighton; Dr. James Dougherty, Mayor James Walker, Mary McGee and Olivia S. Herman, all of Jim Thorpe; Frank Wehr and Thomas Barr, both of Summit Hill; John Martonick, Tresckow; and Carden Nuss, Weatherly.The headquarters will be on the second floor of Immaculate Conception Parish Hall, West Broadway.
