Karl Rolappe, president of the Towamensing Township Historical Commission, presented an award to Carol Copeland for the restoration work she put into the home at 445 Strohl's Valley Road.

She said they put two years into the renovations and involved many contractors."I have records of all previous owners including my parents. I didn't know the road used to be Cider Press Road. We took down the smokehouse," Copeland said.She credits a friend, Larry, with a lot of good ideas.Just finding cabinet knobs was one of the many little details. They found some interesting items in the walls.Rolappe said he got an estimate from an exterminator for clearing insects from the Greenzweig School. He was told they should tent it, but that would cost $6,000. Rolappe prefers to go with one application now and a second later.It looks like there is a cutout that went under the school where they found a mini basement.In other matters, the cookbooks were sent to the printer a month ago and should be available as Christmas presents. It includes old pictures and a history of Towamensing by Roy Christman.Rolappe thinks there should be enough profit to repair the weatherboard and shutters."One step at a time," he said.
