Effort UMC's Supplemental Food Pantry, serving the communities of Effort, Gilbert, Kunkletown, Kresgeville, Brodheadsville, Saylorsburg, Sciota and Albrightsville, will be open Saturday for those who qualify.It is a regular distribution day as well as registering for a Thanksgiving box.The pantry is for helping feed families going through emergency or other short term situations that are not eligible for local, county or state programs and is limited to a 12-week lifetime duration per family.A valid driver's license or state ID with address proving residency in the West End is required.For more information call the church at 570-629-1890.Kookies and KraftsThe Western Pocono Lioness Club, along with the West End Park and Open Space Commission, is holding a free event from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Chestnuthill Park Building at 221 Route 715, Brodheadsville.It includes Kookies and Krafts with Kris Kringle, one free picture per family, storytelling, free Kookies and Krafts and free Kids ID Cards.Children 10 and under must be accompanied by an adult.For further information, contact Lioness Carol at 610-681-8135.Chili and ice creamZion Lutheran's Relay for Life team is holding a chili and ice cream sundae dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday. There will be various kinds of chili from which to choose. The meal includes a hard roll, drinks, and ice cream sundae for dessert.Lunch fundraiserSt. Matthew's UCC, Kunkletown, is having a lunch/movie fundraiser for the youth group from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday. Doors open at noon and bingo starts at 1 p.m. Refreshments such as turkey barbecue, hot dogs, pulled pork, pierogies, homemade soup, baked goods and drinks will be available.For ticket costs or other information call 610-381-2076 or 570-992-5721. All proceeds will benefit the Western Pocono Jaycee Memorial Park on Molasses Valley Road in Kunkletown. The park has two softball fields, all-purpose field, basketball court, playground and picnic pavilion.The next phase of improvements includes upgrading the playground, building steps to the all-purpose field, rebuilding retaining walls and continued regular maintenance of the grounds, building and equipment.Women's ClubThe Western Pocono Women's Club will hold its regular club meeting at 7 p.m. Monday at Effort United Methodist Church. The ladies will be having fun with the theme Celebrating Everyone's Birthday. They also will be busy planning the club Christmas party.The club is open to all women 18 years and older.
