The world spiritual father of the Ukrainian Catholic Church will make a visit to the golden domed Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Sunday.

His Beatitude Sviatoslav Shevchuk will lead the faithful in prayer during the Divine Liturgy, which will begin at 2:15 p.m.During the liturgical service, he will bless new mosaics installed in the cathedral in honor of Blessed Josaphat Hordashevska, founder of the Sisters Servants of Mary Immaculate (declared blessed by St. John Paul II in 2001) and Venerable Metropolitan Andrew Sheptytsky, spiritual leader in Ukraine during the first half of the 20th century (declared heroic by Pope Francis in 2015).At the conclusion of the services, Patriarch Sviatoslav will bless a new bell tower outside the cathedral on Franklin Street in Northern Liberties, which houses the bell from the original cathedral. The entire congregation will then participate in an outside candlelight prayer vigil for Ukraine.Patriarch Sviatoslav is in the United States to participate in several events. He was scheduled to attend the dedication of the National Holodomor Monument Nov. 7 in Washington, D.C., honoring the memory of the 5-7 million Ukrainians who were victims of forced starvation in 1932-33, victims of genocide by Stalin. This monument is located at 2 Massachusetts Ave. NW, Washington, D.C.On Monday, he participated with religious leaders from Ukraine at the National Press Club for a press conference to discuss the current humanitarian crisis and to present their appeal to President Barack Obama to allow the National Guard Program and the Partnership for Peace Program to airlift crucial humanitarian supplies to Ukraine for this winter season.In October, he participated in the World Synod of Bishops convoked by Pope Francis at the Vatican.
