The Mauch Chunk 5 & 10 was awarded $25 as the winner of the Jim Thorpe Tourism Agency's Fall Foliage Scarecrow Contest for its scarecrow titled "All Shopped Out," depicting a scarecrow exhausted after hours of shopping.
As part of the annual Fall Foliage Festival, each business was encouraged to place a scarecrow in front of their business indicating the nature of the business.Additional categories receiving mention were Most Unique to the Inn at Jim Thorpe for their "Tired Traveler," a sleeping scarecrow with his suitcase, and Funniest to OK Cigars for their entry titled "A Good Cigar," a pumpkin-headed scarecrow smoking his cigar.Other notable displays were the "Fashion Lady" at the Gem Shop, "Bury Your Head in a Book" at the Dimmick Memorial Library, "Made in USA" at the Treasure Shop, "Escaped Prisoner" at the Old Jail and "Tallest Scarecrows" at Vintagerie.The Market Square section of Broadway from Route 209 to Acorn Court displayed the most scarecrows.Scarecrows were on display the month of October.
