Heritage Hill man celebrates 91 years

Benedict "Ben" Blaise Bayer, a resident of Heritage Hill Senior Community, is celebrating his 91st birthday.

He was born on Nov. 7, 1924, in Dime Box, Texas, to Robert John Bayer and Agnes Marie (Supak) Bayer. He was one of four children. Bernadette Beran of Caldwell, Texas; Alfonse of Houston, Texas, who passed away July 18 of this year; and Frank Caldwell.He is the father of four children, Michael of Freeland, Jude of Hazleton, David of Sandy Valley and Karen of Sugarloaf. He also has nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.Ben was a proud member of the 101st Airborne in World War II. He earned several medals, including a Purple Heart when he was wounded in France. After the war, he re-enlisted with the 82nd Airborne. It was there he met his future brother-in-law, who brought him home on leave where he met his future wife, Rose Marie Vallot Bayer. She passed away in 1984.Ben worked in construction well into his 80s as a drywall hanger and finisher where he was well-known for his quality of work.He enjoyed fishing when he was not working or spending time with his family.
