A Carbon County man entered guilty pleas in four pending cases on Monday, admitting to drug dealing and three counts of driving under the influence.

James Serfass Jr., 57, of Lehighton, entered the pleas before Judge Joseph J. Matika. In total he also pleaded to three counts of driving under suspension-DUI related.Serfass was arrested on the drug count in November after state police vice unit officers entered a detached garage along Prospect Street in Weissport. The officers entered the garage after Serfass sold drugs to a confidential informant. In that case he pleaded to one count of criminal use of a communication facility. The buy was set by the CI when he called Serfass' cellphone.The first DUI occurred on Aug. 17 along Prospect Street; the second on Aug. 3 again also along Prospect Street; and the third on Aug. 16 along Bridge Street at Route 209 in Lehighton. In all three cases Serfass refused a blood test. State police at Lehighton filed the charges.Sentencing was deferred so Serfass could apply for placement in the state's Intermediate Punishment Program. The program runs for two years and includes about a year in jail, followed by time spent in an inpatient rehabilitation program and the remaining time in a halfway house. The program is reportedly run military style with one violation ending the program for the inmate, who then would be resentenced by the presiding judge.Matika also ordered a presentence investigation report be prepared by the adult probation office.
