Tamaqua salon has 35 years of purrfection

Even after all these years, Martha DiBuo still does her best to make sure her customers receive the "Purrfect" haircut.

That says a lot when one considers that DiBuo's business, Purrfect Reflections Salon, has been a staple in downtown Tamaqua since 1980.The salon, located at 19 Center St., recently celebrated its 35th year under DiBuo's watch."It's crazy. I can't believe it's this long already," DiBuo said. "It went by fast."The salon's staying power is a tribute to its customers, DiBuo said."We're a family-oriented shop," she said. "We do haircuts, color, highlights, perms, and special occasions like proms, weddings."DiBuo has operated the business since she bought the store from Dottie Machay."People are bringing their little kids in, so it's like an extended family," she said. "I get to know them so well."DiBuo is a certified instructor for the Look Good Feel Better program in cooperation with the American Cancer Society."When they walk in, the women are a little apprehensive," she said. "When they walk out, they feel uplifted because they get to talk to people in the group about what they're going through."Over the years, DiBuo said she has done a lot of haircuts for Locks of Love as well.DiBuo, who lives locally, is the wife of Rick DiBuo, and the daughter of Marge and Frank Morris. Her hours of operation are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, walk-ins only; and by appointment Thursday through Saturday. To schedule an appointment, call 570-668-5201.
