Rush sewer line replacement to cost nearly $177,000

The construction of a sewer line replacement project in Hometown could cost Rush Township nearly $177,000.

That's after the township's board of supervisors on Thursday unanimously agreed to accept the lowest bid that has met all the project specifications.A total of six companies submitted proposals to the township, which saw Doli Construction Corporation, of Chalfont, Bucks County, turn in the apparent low bid of $176,890.That bid was $16,995 less than the next lowest bid of $193,885 submitted by Dirt Work Solutions Inc. of Slatington.Other companies that bid were Anrich Inc., ($227,666); Sikora Brothers Paving Inc., ($228,660); Arthur "Pat" Aungst Inc. ($250,997); and Biros Septic & Drain Cleaning Inc. ($329,330).All of the replacement improvements are expected to be in ground by the end of this year, with final road restoration by the spring of 2016, according to engineering representative Bill McMullen.The project calls for the replacement of the sewer on Chestnut Street, between Center Street and Ridge Street, and Ridge Street, between Chestnut Street and Ryan Avenue.Other businessIn other action, supervisors:• Hired Elliot Burlett as a part-time police officer retroactive as of Oct. 5, at a pay rate of $16 an hour.• Approved a request from Tamaqua Borough for the township's fire police to assist with the Tamaqua Halloween Parade to be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday.• Announced that Trick-or-Treat will be held in the township from 6-9 p.m. Oct. 31.
