Open house will showcase work of multiple artists in Tamaqua
Tamaqua has become home to a growing number of artists, including such world-renowned names as Stephen Bennett and Joseph Marioni. This Saturday, the public will be offered a sneak peak into their worlds as the Tamaqua Area Community Partnership hosts a Creative Manufacturing/Artist Open House.
The event will showcase Bennett's and Marioni's studios, as well as several other spaces designed to house art studios or other artistic ventures. From 2 to 4 p.m., visitors will be welcome at Marioni's studio, 110 E. Broad St.; Bennett's home and studio at 224 W. Broad St.; McCoy designs at 108 E. Broad St.; the Tamaqua Community Art Center at 125 Pine St.; studio space in the Tamaqua Elks Building; 201 W. Broad St.; the former Scheid's Department Store, 24 W. Broad St.; Tamaqua Railroad Station, 18 N. Railroad St.; Emma's Friends Soaps and Lotions, 101 E. Broad St.; Tamaqua artist in residence space at 27 Center St.; Tamaqua Historical Society Museum, 118 W. Broad St.; and Stonehedge Gardens, 51 Dairy Road in South Tamaqua.Marioni's work is found in museums and public collections worldwide. Many of his works are enormous in size and monochromatic in style. His work will be on exhibit at the Philadelphia Art Museum as of Nov. 13.Bennett paints massive, brightly hued portraits of indigenous people and international world figures. Several of his works have been selected by the United Nations Postal Administration, which has issued the postage stamps throughout the world. Bennett's work was selected in 2009, 2010 and 2012 as part of the U.N.'s Indigenous People series.McCoy Designs manufactures stylish, original, handcrafted crystal sculptures, some of which have been featured in such home design publications as Elle Decor.
